Misfire Animatic Storyboards

The traditionally drawn and digitally edited storyboards for my short animatic called Misfire and some bonus character sketches and location plans at the end because the last page was only half filled.

Before I started drawing the storyboards I decided the length of the animatic to be 3-5 minutes . I already had the basis for the story in my head and I followed that idea when drawing this out.
I believe heavily in having well thought out plans before starting anything and I often reserve a lot of "error time" at the beginning, meaning the storyboards act as the first draft and I will only focus on getting the story down and leave the more creative parts (presentation, clever camera angles, symbolism etc.) for later while I work on other aspects, then come back to it to revision it and build up from that. Usually I do the first draft part as a written script, but this being such a short story, I decided to skip that part and just wrote up a quick run down of the events I wanted to take place and the time estimate of each scenes length. This is also the reason the drawings are very crude and only make sense to me, as I wanted to reserve energy for the actual more polished sketches used in the animatic.

During my years as a hobbyist comic artist, I have found that when one starts from zero with a story concept, it tends to evolve a lot at the beginning stages as it all slowly falls into place and needs as much time as can be spared to mature into a solid narrative. During that maturing process it is important one doesn't get too attached to a part because it might need to be cut/edited/altered to make the story work better. Applying this method to this project I looked at the first draft while building the 3-D assets and locations I used in this project and thought about what to change or do better before I started drawing it out properly. This made me do crucial last chance edits to the story while drawing the final pictures for the animatic and some while editing it all together.
